Company mission statements: they’re usually filled with jargon and a bit of a snooze. But they’re actually an amazing opportunity to remind people of why what they do matters. Why is this so important? Finding meaning in your work makes a major difference in your quality of life.

According to Amy Wrzesniewski of Yale University, there are three kinds of workers: those who see work as a job, as a career, and as a calling. Surprisingly, about one third of people in all fields see work as a calling, whether they are doctors, janitors, engineers, or secretaries, and those who do are both happier and healthier.

Of course, not everyone has the power to rewrite their company’s mission statement. But everyone can think about what their personal mission statement might be. Whether it’s helping others, building tools that improve lives, or brightening people’s days, take a moment to capture what it is that makes what you do worthwhile.
