The Evolution of Work-Life.

In an interview I was doing the other day someone asked me: "So what do you do for fun after work?"

Pause. I wanted to answer: "I actually have a lot of fun working. I love writing for the 200k people who read my blog. It brings me enormous joy to read emails from people around the world who find my work to be value in their work/life."

But that seemed too clichéd. So I said: "Rock climbing." Also true.

The above discussion crossed my mind as I saw this wonderful graphic from 2008. On Venkat's evolution prediction, I think I'm incredibly blessed to be in the 2010 stage.

I'm not sure I know exactly what he means by 2050. My interpretation is that robots and AI will rule the world so we can just live, with 30 mins of work each day (mostly reprogramming our robots and fixing bugs in the AI algorithms! :)).

I do fundamentally believe that we are moving away from a society where "work" will be this painful thing we have to endure to get money to take care of our families and our old age.  We are automating everything. We are making things more efficient. We are making everything self-sustaining. Work I believe won't be a pain anymore. Each person will find their nirvana spot, the thing that truly moves them, and just work on that.

So. Where are you in Venkat's spectrum? And do you agree that work will not be "work" anymore?
