Trackbacks in Google Analytics
Some of you may have noticed that the Trackbacks Report has moved to Traffic Sources > Social > Trackbacks.
This is actually some cool data. Anyone that has done SEO knows that link-building is important. You want to get lots of links from lots of credible sites. This helps identify you as an expert - a strong signal to search engines.
The Trackbacks report in Google Analytics lists all of the sites that have links back to your site. This data comes from the main Google index.
What's cool is that Google Analytics presents a mix of onsite and offsite data. It shows:
* Trend of the # of trackbacks posted over time
* The page where the trackback was posted (called the Endorsing URL)
* The number of visits from each Endorsing URL
This is a great way to see how you're doing at getting links and, more importantly, getting traffic from those links.
Do you use the Trackbacks report?
