ReplyDeleteI have used free and premium templates.
If this is your first blog start with a free template. In the wordpress dashboard you have the option to search for free templates. You can also search for two column, three column templates or specific colour based templates.
We can also easily customize the free templates and make them unique.
If we want to go in for premium templates there are many options available. But we need to first decide the type of blog we want to create and whether it will have more textbased content, videos, audio files, photo galleries, etc. and then choose the appropriate one.
One of the questions from audience: Is it possible to try premium templates/themes before using them. The preview image on the site looks great but when you implement it there are too many restrictions and you can't change much in it.
ReplyDeleteMany premium template sellers offer a money back guarantee. That could be one option.
ReplyDeleteMost often a demo is kept as part the premium templates. We can watch a site that has been created with that template and then decide.
We can also search Google for blogs that have been created with particular premium templates.
am a designer/developer and have used many wordpress themes till date. I would suggest using the "dummy content" feature of the theme. When you install and activate the theme, you have to create your pages from scratch. But once you install the dummy content, all the pages(that you saw as a part of the demo) are downloaded and installed. You only have to customized them! Easier than recreating them!
ReplyDeleteWorth making sure your theme is mobile compatible, otherwise installing JetPack gives a module to activate to make your blog mobile friendly and there are other plugins too out there. If installing loads of themes, make sure to remove all redundant ones when you have stuck with the one you are happy with.
ReplyDeleteWe work with lots of themes daily. And it's good fun. Any free theme can also be made unique by customizing it. But for that you need to have designing and PHP skills. Wordpress is awesome and offers much flexibility. You can add as many features you want. For basic customizations, just play around with the dashboard and you will get to learn it!
