From +Ezra Weinstein & the InteractBuilder.com Team

It's Sunday and it's time to kick back and relax.  Come hang out with the folks from InteractStudios and lets have a fun interactive discussion about the InteractBuilder, InteractStudios and what you can all expect to see in 2013!

Ken Ray our lead developer will give you some insight into what motivated us to rewrite the software from the ground up and share some of his visions of the future.  We also expect to have a few other interesting guests join us. We might even open up the InteractBuilder and try to do something fun, exciting and innovative.

Ask questions, make comments, give us feedback and get to know us better.  We promise - NO SLIDE SHOWS!  NO SOLILOQUIES! NO LECTURES! AND DEFINITELY NO BAD JOKES (ok, maybe a couple).

We look forward to hanging out with you!

    ReplyDelete
  7. hello?    we're ButterpawandtheBadger (Jeannette and Doug)

    ReplyDelete
  8. I have no idea how to do this .. is it supposed to be voice??

    ReplyDelete
  9. Is there something else that we need to click on?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hey all, I'm in Germany. Freelance Illustrator (Fathom It Studios)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hi Everyone from Michigan at 11:04am. Glad to be here. Thanks Pooja for helping make this happen.

    ReplyDelete
  12. lol I see I cannot get away with a smiling but I am grinning

    ReplyDelete
  13. We are getting started in a few minutes. You should see the video on the event or on this link: http://youtu.be/xSnYyxvSwZs

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hi! I'm a freelance illustrator from the UK - it's 4pm here. Nice to meet you all :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hi there everybody :D  hope you can read my typonese .. I make a lot of typos :p

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hi Everyone, I Cedrick from New Jersey.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I am here but the message is saying it will start in a few minutes. I am an artist, author and illustrator from Atlanta, Ga., USA

    ReplyDelete
  18. This boy is my grandson in Northern Ireland, where it's also 4pm - I think. We had sooo much fun with finger paints painting the cows water trough, that they gave up for the day (they used something else). Next day, after a rain, the cows were back.

  19. Hi Jan, I'm an IT Admin, Author and Technology geek at heart.

    ReplyDelete
  20. We are just waiting for a couple of folks to join us and then we'll be on!

Post your questions for Ezra and team until then :-)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hi all, I'm a freelance illustrator from CA but am currently in FL waiting to fly home because we just adopted a newborn baby boy (yay!). Glad I could attend though, the internet is awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think there's a beta of IB3 available at least

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yesterday on Ezra's webinar, someone was saying that I shouldn't load flash anymore. Can someone tell me why?

    ReplyDelete
  24. IB3 is coming out sometime in January - couple weeks was said yesterday on the webinar.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Virginia, my guess is that because Flash doesn't work on iphones and ipad, it isn't wise to use when the majority of devices can't show it

    ReplyDelete
  26. And it comes stronger, cleaner, nicer, new features....!!! : ))

    ReplyDelete
  27. ok, glad to know. I'm more artist than techie..

    ReplyDelete
  28. Does anybody have a clear understanding about the financial aspects that Ezra talked yesterday?

    ReplyDelete
  29. And we are live! Just refresh the screen if you don't see the video.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hi All, I'm new to this... we live now?

    ReplyDelete
  31. You are on and he does not look scary...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Question for Ezra and team: What kind of learning curve is involved in using the interface? from the video, it looks like it's lots of pull down menus. can you talk a little bit about how you chose the interface and what we can expect it will take us in terms of hours to do a (for example) 32 page Picture book? thx :) from Germany

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ezra sounds good - see Ken, but only see a black box on the YouTube where Mark should be showing up.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'll be passing on the questions inside. Keep them coming.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh, Hi Brett - great book - I bought it last year from itunes.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Brett, did you do your art digitally -  if so, what platform?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Pooja... How long is the estimate from the developer as to when there will be a physics library integrated into Interact Builder?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yeah, it took me about a few months to do my book in IB2. It depends how complex you want to get.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Pooja, another question... is it possible to have interactive objects placed over a video background object which can then be interacted with whilst the video is playing in the background. I ask this because if the standard IOS controls are used for playing video then the video is always "topmost" in the z-order on a canvas and thus preclude the interaction of other objects whilst the video has focus.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hi Pooja, I wanted to know if you set the action to record voice for a few seconds, can I set up a second action to play the captured voice recording?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Now I'm hearing utube back from the beginning ??

    ReplyDelete
  42. From Ken: To Raymond: We have the ability to overlay elements on top of video, but there's a performance hit... so we're going to have to see if it has other issues, but technically it's possible.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Virginia, can you check if the video is open in any other tab for you? I posted on Wiggo and a few other places.

Let me know if anyone else is having audio/video issues.

    ReplyDelete
  44. @Ken... I believe you can do it if you render in OpenGL2.0+... good to know if you can do it

    ReplyDelete
  45. From Ken To Raymond: We have physics on the list of things to add, but it's not on the docket for the next release after this first one, so it will probably be 6 months or so before we can look at adding physics to IB3.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Question:  a. IB3 includes integration of different fonts from the default ones?

    ReplyDelete
  47. welcome :) thanks for taking the time to answer 'em.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm still trying to get Wiggio - Safari says it can't connect. Any other ideas? tx.

    ReplyDelete
  49. @Ken... thanks Ken... I am very keen on product development which requires objects to have real physics characteristics, e.g. game puzzles integrated into interactive pages are a must... so i will have to be more patient then:)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hi Ezra and lovely team! Could you create here, in this session, a page with text and a drawing/simple animation so that we can get an idea on how to start a "real" book? Grateful.....

    ReplyDelete
  51. @Virginia... I am using Chrome and that works well

    ReplyDelete
  52. Am getting utube from your site Pooja. Thanks. I need to download Chrome sometime - like right after this. Thanks Raymond.

    ReplyDelete
  53. From Ken to Raymond:
there will be a few physics-based behaviors available (the "spring" behavior acts like a spring would and the "drop" behavior has some gravity to it), but we'll certainly do more later.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Virginia Rinkel great to hear that. I'm checking both places for the comments and questions so keep them coming :-)

    ReplyDelete
  55. @ezra... i must say Ken appears to have done a lot of great work in a short space of time!

    ReplyDelete
  56. So glad to hear the "spring" behavior and "drop" with more physics coming later too.

    ReplyDelete
  57. From Brett Curzon: Thank you Wil, you have made my day :-)

    ReplyDelete
  58. From Ken Ray
To c vega: The first version will not let you do that, but it is certainly possible (we're using a custom font for IB3) for a future build.

    ReplyDelete
  59. If I want to create a page with, let's say 4 lines of text, and a background that covers the whole page. Do I drop a text box over the background? And what happens with the box...doesn't it as a whole element embed with its white background in the page background? Or do I introduce only the letters into the page background?...or the textbox has to be transparent..? I do not know if I am clear enough...sorry ..thanks for reading my question.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Brett Curzon says
    Don't shake your computer :-)

    ReplyDelete
  61. From Ken Ray To Gabriela - Text elements have a transparent background unless you are actually editing the text.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Thanks Ken. I saw this feature on a Book App which Impressed my kids and myself. It would be a Great feature to add in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  63. From Brett Curzon
I would place the text on the background image Gabriela. That would be easier way to go.

    ReplyDelete

  64. Ken Ray
To Cedrick - I have that on my list of notes from this chat, so I'll add it to our feature list.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I think the butterfly is 11 different graphics. Don't know if you can support more here?

    ReplyDelete
  66. From Ken: To Jammy - Good suggestion! I will add that to my list of things to talk about with Ezra prior to IB3's release.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Will each frame have the ability to each have it's own start-finish movement time?

    ReplyDelete
  68. From Ken Ray
To Virginia - Animations can be as many frames as you want

    ReplyDelete
  69. From Ken Ray
To Virginia - As Ezra said, you can specify individual durations for each frame

(once I fix that part of it... :-D )

    ReplyDelete
  70. Thank you Ken for all your work on this - Raymond said it when he said you've done  A LOT in this time period of getting 3.0 out. Congratulations to you!!!

    ReplyDelete
  71. From Ken Ray
To Virginia - Thanks a lot! I'm really loving working on IB3!

    ReplyDelete
  72. To Ken: This is a example of a App with the Record Voice and Play Capture Recording Feature found on the second page of the app. I have a few more suggestions which I will send to Ezra.  Example: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/goldilocks-three-bears-interactive/id498833002?mt=8

    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  73. From Ken Ray
To Cedrick - Thanks for that...

    ReplyDelete
  74. So glad to hear the softness of the T-shirt material!! When do we get to choose our size?

    ReplyDelete
  75. I would like to know if Ezra can show us how to make a character Jump and move on Tap Action

    ReplyDelete
  76. I made Tiger Chai this morning too, Ezra!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. From: Ken Ray
To Ann: Thumbnails can be specified in the IB3 interface but it's not simulated in Interact mode (but it will work in the Player app on the device).

    ReplyDelete
  78. Pooja: please pass along my thank yous, great info and I just bought Bill the Fish and will review. I got some great info tonite, will definitely keep 'tuned in' to you guys. All the best, super excited about the possiblities :)

    ReplyDelete
  79. I think IB3 would be perfect for the hundreds of kiosk related apps for information centers for tourists, mapping, museums, shopping, etc. I think the applications are endless for kiosk applications.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Does IB3 handle location services (in iOS for example), so you can add live maps, etc.?

    ReplyDelete
  81. For the folks who joined in mid-way, the video above will display the replay a few minutes after we end the broadcast. Feel free to send your questions to Ezra Weinstein and Ken Ray.

    ReplyDelete
  82. For V3 of Interact Builder, please send an email to ezra@interactstudios.com

    ReplyDelete
  83. From Ken Ray
To Ben - Currently IB3 won't do anything with location services, but we definitely want to add that.

    ReplyDelete
  84. From Ken Ray
To Charlie - Ezra has been doing the documentation; I think we'll have some templates on release, but Ezra would have to chime in on that.

    ReplyDelete
  85. lovely T-shirt design.   Regarding the Web element may that be sized to fit within the window on the page without having to scroll to see the page?

    ReplyDelete
  86. I want to start playing with this software. How can I get my hands on it?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Hi Ezra, can you show us how to make a element jump a certain distance? Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  88. so you will be able to copy and paste onto another page?

    ReplyDelete
  89. @Ann- yes, you can copy and paste to another page

    ReplyDelete
  90. That is a great feature on the copy and paste.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Vic - Send an email to ezra@interactstudios.com

    ReplyDelete
  92. Just finishing up after church, looking forward to reviewing the HOA.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Ann - Not yet in Design mode, but it's supported as an Interaction/Behavior in Interact mode.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Thanks for showing us a few of the great details with the updated software. I attended all the interact workshops last year in the older version and can already see how much cooler this version is! Got to go now, but look forward to future webinars. From the UK

    ReplyDelete
  95. "edge" might be easier to understand than "corner"

    ReplyDelete
  96. Raymond - Agreed... that is on the list for a future version of IB3.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Ann - good point... we'll do that.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Jammy - You'd have to ask Ezra about that (since he's presenting, you can email him at ezra@interactstudios.com)

    ReplyDelete
  99. Glad to know about the ability of interaction of changing illustration, but keeping all the other elements. Huge!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Cool - is this an animation that the words come in after the car jumps?

    ReplyDelete
  101. would you be able to add counter totals from different pages and then show final count  on another page

    ReplyDelete
  102. Ann - Yes, those are "global" counters

    ReplyDelete
  103. Ann - To set a counter as a global counter, you set "Global" to "Yes" on the Props tab for the counter element.

    ReplyDelete
  104. can here you type but no pic or other sound

    ReplyDelete
  105. Vic - I lost him as well; just sent him a Skype to see if he can get back on

    ReplyDelete
  106. I love what I'm seeing... count me in.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Raymond - We don't have any text customisation globals but that's a great idea!

    ReplyDelete
  108. We're restarting the hangout... one sec.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Is anyone still on the chat? If so, are you interested in seeing more or should we stop the hangout?

    ReplyDelete
  110. you guys shared alot with us.  We appreciated it.  Thanks. Bye

    ReplyDelete
