Antique Japanese vase from my grandfather's house.

  2. Seems to be similar to Satsuma vases from the 17th century (thanks Google). Still looking for the story. 

    Another discovery: the raised beads are called moriage and were introduced sometime in the late 1800s/early 1900s.

  4. It seems  these vases were  originally   produced by Koreans who were living in Satsuma.   Hence its name.   On account of its popularity, the vase was mass produced during 1900 to 1920.
    The vase is 1.5 ft high.   The figures may depict a story.  The
    artist's  signature can represent an idea or a sound.  So a language professor or a history professor may help in determining the age of a vase.  The vase was sold in pairs.  
    Its value as quoted as $ 450.00.
