Another excellent tutorial from JD Hillberry and on the paper you should use for your pencil drawings and how to avoid getting those fingerprints in your artwork (unless you are using that as your signature :-D). 

Interestingly, the Arches 100% rag is the same paper that Mark Mitchell recommends for his Illustration Course too. So whether it's pencil sketches or watercolors, Arches seems to be the one that works.

  1. I was also taught by John Hutton, terrific life drawing teacher and black and white illustration class, to turn your paper - a lot! Helps keep your hands off it. Totally agree with keeping hands off. I find it helps to be at a table with the right angle of my arm to table, so I'm not too high or low and lots of natural light. I've made boards up with fronts and backs of good papers, and then do the same technique in small section, and keep those boards as reference to know what kind of paper I'd like to use on a project. Thanks again for sharing this.
