So much awesome!
ReplyDeletehello.........pooja
ReplyDeleteIsn't this the same? Or did that include any other features?
ReplyDeleteOh, custom themes are back? Yay!
ReplyDeleteAh yes, I remember. Send feedback :-)
ReplyDeleteHmm, not quite totally custom, but quite cool. What I was looking for was custom colours.
ReplyDeleteWill totally send feedback :)
Yes, sob, Zachary Yaro , that's the one. Manu Cornet , can you help us get that back?
ReplyDeleteJyoti Dahiya I'm afraid that one isn't coming back :-/ Basically we're pushing for more images and fancy transparency rather than solid colors. I'm also slightly sad because that one was my baby, but we also need to look forward :)
ReplyDeleteManu Cornet , noooooo. Beats fists on floor while kicking feet. Why does Google assume everyone has high bandwidth connections?? We poor people exist, too, you know!
ReplyDeleteIs there any way to get this in as a chrome extension or something?
Jyoti Dahiya Not as far as I know...
ReplyDeleteManu Cornet , I am sobbing bitterly. I used to love that custom colours thing. When gmail shifted to this new look (all spread out, assuming everyone has giant monitors (do Google engineers not have relatives in the real world, at least?)) and then they said wait, some features we have taken off will come back. Can you tell them from me that they are all 'liars liars, pants on fires', please? (Going back to lie on the floor and scream and fist-pound).
ReplyDeleteI think Greg Bullock Jason Cornwell should be able to say more about this.
ReplyDeleteI also think it's a great pity to lose the customizability we formerly offered. This new pair of themes (internally known as Picturesque) was never indeed to replace any functionality offered by the original Custom Theme - other than proper background image scaling.
ReplyDeleteHowever, Jyoti Dahiya, I am aware of a Chrome Extension which might just meet your needs: http://userstyles.org/styles/67092/gmail-message-list-colours. I think this is well worth exploring. It is actively maintained by Gmail Top Contributor, Wendy Durham. I hope this helps :-)
Greg Bullock , thanks for pointing me at the extension--it certainly satisfies my need for many and lovely colours!
ReplyDeleteBut what Manu Cornet had done was allow us to colour the background, the links, and the headings. Today, the links etc are standard colours (red for compose, etc) depending on and limited to the choices in the offered themes. For example, if I want the compose link to be carmine, there is no way to do it. Further, if I want the unread messages to be purple, uh oh time. Manu's system offered the maximum control to the user for the appearance. If this could only be offered on top of picturesque, the team which did it would get the undying gratitude of millions. For undying gratitude from merely hundreds or tens of thousands, can we please have something like Manu's scheme back?
Greg Bullock , nope, it's not compatible with the themes in Gmail. Or else I'm doing something wrong. :( Not fun not being geeky.
ReplyDeleteI think it should be compatible. Wendy Durham can probably help out with this.
ReplyDeleteWendy, please help?
