  1. .. and IMHO they make even less sense than before. At this price point, most Android (the irony) tablets are much better device.

  2. Depends on what you want to use them for. I have both devices and I don't see them as replacements for each other. I use the Chromebook when I need to type a lot or when I'm putting together content from different sources. I use the tablet mostly for consuming content or lite typing as in this case.

  3. Newegg has the Acer and Samsung Chromebooks from $300 to $400. Within that price is a version with WiFi and 3G.

Apple iPad prices at the lowest range will not include 3G. I imagine Samsung tablets are priced lower. At $529 the iPad 2 will run ~25% more than the $400 Chromebook with 3G. I significant amount for many buyers.

Of course there are actually full blown laptops on the market in the $400 area too that are another good option to a Chromebook.

I think the Samsung tablets or others are very good. Plus they offer easy external storage options that Apple does not, at least so far. Maybe they look at the Cloud as their external storage solution.

I have a Chromebook via Google I/O 2011 and use it to support my hobby (ham radio) but it is limited for that without web applications.
Others with specialized needs may be better off with a basic laptop.
