When Jonathan Rosenberg and I first joined Google over a decade ago, we were both seasoned executives with clear ideas on how to run a successful business. We figured it was our job to bring “adult supervision” to what was then a growing startup.
Boy were we wrong. It didn’t take long for us to realize Google was a different kind of company, made up of a vocal group of software engineers and product managers who were not only brilliant, but also highly creative and business-savvy—not to mention aggressively skeptical of anything resembling traditional management techniques. It was clear we’d have to relearn everything we thought we knew about business management. Over the course of ten years, we noted each lesson we learned, and, with the help of +Alan Eagle, compiled them in our new book: How Google Works.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve shared a few of those stories and lessons, and hope you’ve found them insightful. We think there are huge opportunities today across industries and around the world for motivated, gutsy business people to transform their companies or create new ones. If this sounds like you, I encourage you to pick up a copy of our book, which I’m excited to share is now available most places books are sold.
