  1. This is real in a pile of places.  Australia's housing is getting a little pricey, as is our higher education, but other than that its pretty much the same here.

The "American Dream" is least seen... in America.

  3. As an example, West Australian school teachers graduate into a $63,000 AUD salary, $69,000 in the second year, and progress up to $95,000 after 10 years of teaching.

Each staet is different, but here's Western Australia's Schedule: http://det.wa.edu.au/careers/detcms/navigation/teachers-and-school-leaders/employment-conditions/salaries-and-teaching-levels/?oid=Category-id-14081653

  4. Salary for Danish elementary school teachers: http://www.lonstatistik.dk/lonninger.asp?job=Folkeskolelarer-4312

Averate 31k DKK per month = about $70,000 per year.

I'd guess around 40-45% of that goes to taxes.

Source: I'm Swedish, and our situation is about the same except our teachers are paid less :-(
